So I have covered the power, impact and benefits of the IPad as I see it for Dealer Solutions and for our market – The Australian Retail Automotive Trade but what have we discovered when using it outside work? The news here only gets better.
I recently had a week of annual leave with the Worlds Best Wife and we decided to cross some things off our bucket list in Melbourne, down the Great Ocean Road and on the Mornington Peninsula. The IPad was simply incredible and we were both amazed at how it became such an integral part of our holiday.
Word to wise………..You have to have a 3G Ipad and the 3G provider must be Telstra. As much as I despise everything about Telstra we could not have achieved what we did with any other provider. The Telstra coverage was clearly the widest and the fastest. It is also easy to over estimate your data usage as we discovered when we paid for 3GB and only used 400MB in the week.
So how did we use it?
- Forget the Sat Nav blaring at you from the windscreen. Give the passenger the Ipad to use Google Maps and watch how things become simple and how you can explore based on map entries. Just a note to those of you that like driving! Victoria is not the place to enjoy a car. If this police state attitude troubles you stay with the sat nav and the “safety” camera warnings every 5 KM
- Download and use wikihood. You get everything from wikipedia fed to your ipad based on your geo location. See what you may want to see as you arrive.
- Use Trip Advisor and/or Eatibility to review accomodation and/or restaurants. We found Geelong’s best Restaurant with Trip Advisor and the experience was everything the reviewers had said it would be
- Make bookings online and get best last minute prices. You also get a very convenient list to “work” the names and numbers.
- Type place names and identifiers into google search and let the search results guide you to history and activity
Obviously we had great results with our Ipad while we travelled and I hope you have similar fantastic results. Let me know if you have.
